East African Dance Rituals

In post-colonial times In East Africa, dancing was very ritualistic and traditional. Each tribe had their own dancing techniques the passed down from generation to generation. Even today, you will still see those honoring their heritage by keeping their tradtional dance ways alive! Kids even take part! Their parents will give them their traditional children’s dancewear and facial paintings! Then off they go! It’s a very meaningful and time-honored tradition.

This is especially kept alive within the girls of the family. At an early age, they are provided with their girls dancewear and expected to memorize each step of the family dance! It’s very moving to watch them take part in their heritage.
